Octuplet Mom Should Not Profit

While the public doesn't have a right to impose its views on a woman in regard to her reproductive decisions, it should stand firm in preventing anyone from profiting from unwise choices. If, as has been reported, the California mother who recently gave birth to octuplets is now seeking millions of dollars for her story, she should ultimately come away disappointed.
But whatever help she does get should be just enough to allow her to make ends meet and assure that her 14 children do not grow up in abject poverty. Obviously, they did not choose to be born under such circumstances and should therefore not have to suffer any consequences. Any negative fallout arising from her reproductive choices should be felt solely by the mother.
She should not glean even a penny of personal benefit from them. The media should freeze her out and not allow her to profit from her 15 minutes of undeserved fame. Of course, as we all know, some avaricious TV station, radio station, newspaper, magazine, tabloid, or book publisher is going to swoop in and pay her an ungodly sum of money for the rights to her story.
Once again we'll have a case of someone doing something stupid and dangerous, only to make out like a bandit for it. If only people were equally rewarded for making wise decisions, working hard, and living quiet and exemplary lives.

Top-level comments on this article: (3 total)We think a lot alike, you and I. This woman you speak of and the on going Caylee Anthony case that that horrid woman Nancy Grace is exploiting makes me want to vomit.People are obviously watching and media whores every where are delivering. It's the world we now live in and I don't think things will be changing soon. I know I may become an unpopular women amongst my own kind for bashing Nancy, but she really does get on my nerves and is a perfect example of what's wrong in America. Thanks for the well thought out and intelligent read, have a great week!Myla, you are so right, I don't see any of this changing any time soon either. So sad, really. And I'm glad to hear that it's not just us guys who can't stand Nancy Grace. Why is that woman on television? But then again, the same question could be asked about Judge Judy and Jane Velez-Mitchell (who is, thankfully, no kin to me). Of course (and just so you'll know I'm not picking on women), there's also no shortage of men who shouldn't be on TV, such as Jerry Springer, Maury Povich, Keith Olbermann, and Dr. Phil.Although this woman should NOT receive 1 dime from taxpayers, I guarantee that she will. If this woman can afford approx. $30,000..00 for plastic surgery, she can support her own children. ALSO, where did she get the money for IVF? Friends of mine went through that, and it was PLENTY EXPENSIVE!!! I blame the system as much as I blame the OctMom. When did we say, "have a baby - welfare will pay." After all, there are a lot of people who work and pay taxes, they don't mind supporting THEIR children, therefore they can support everyone's elses's too. So come to 'Merica.' and have all the babies you want. Just jump on the welfare wagon. ..
Hi Terry, you are absolutely right, but let me tell you what she will get. She is already commited to appear on several shows, such as Oprah's, for which she will get big bucks. She will sell a limited article to some trash magazine and get more big bucks. She will collaborate with some author and publish a book, where she will make mega bucks, plus sell movie rights for more mega bucks. She may even take all 14 of her children on the road for live shows and make millions. There is little doubt that she will become a millionaire. If she is shrewd enough to get all this implanting done on the sly, she will surely have some agent who will milk every cent he can from these children. So she will be wealthy unless the agent fleeces her for the bulk of the earnings. Check out my story of the exploitation of the Dionne Quintuplets, article # 428808.Joel, you are probably right. I basically predicted the same thing in my article. Our culture is so twisted.
Octuplets? Is it safe to assume that she had been undergoing fertility treatments? How is she seeking millions in support? Did she mate with a dog and give birth to puppies?Terry, as usual you really know how to push the line of conservatism! lolNevertheless, I can guarentee you that these children will certainly not all be healthy, in fact, some will certainly be very seriously disabled as one mother can not sustain life to that many children in her belly for a full nine months.I am surprised that this case has not become a poster board for pro-choice. That meaning that for people who are so adamently pro-life do need to be prepared to help support the cost of that life. I've said this before ( and I still personally would not get an abortion ) but I do predict that with the overturning of Roe vs Wade, there will be a rise in poverty and welfare recipients.Jennifer, don't tell me you're hearing this story for the first time. It's been all over the news for the last week. Where have you been?Yes, she used some kind of fertility treatments. She is apparently trying to sell her story to some tabloid, talk show, or publishing company. She has already hired a publicist. What does that tell you? She is an unmarried 33-year-old living with her parents. She already had six other kids (a set of twins and four singletons) via fertility treatments. Yes, Virginia, that's a grand total of 14 kids now.A young lady named Jillian who commented on this story on my blog seems to have some additional information about her that I haven't heard in the media. Anyone who is interested can go to my blog and read it.No, I haven't seen it in the news. I never watch t.v. except while working out, and even then it is usually the History channel. But it is certainly unethical for an MD to provide a young single mother who already has proven to be fertile to receive fertility treatments. Not only unethical, but grossly irresponsible.JenniferJennifer, I completely agree. This physician was clearly only granting her treatments for profit, not thinking about the health consequences and/or risks involved in doing this. His license should be revoked or at the very least suspended.Someone please tell me that he is being investigated. I can't imagine that this young woman's insurance paid for this, for if they had, they also should be refunded. This is a type of fraud or abuse of the system..Jennifer, I can tell you that the physician is indeed being investigated.
