I've always eaten the white underside of an orange peel. While there's nothing special or tast
y about it, I have had the desire to eat it from early childhood.
Back then, my parents would scold me every time they saw me doing that. They said it was a nasty habit and that this part of an orange peel couldn't possibly be good for anyone, and should therefore be discarded.
Well, guess what? Flash forward 40 years and we are now being told that the white part of an orange peel is the most nutritious portion of the entire fruit. Anyway, that's what various studies have revealed lately.
Perhaps I've always known something (that I never realized I knew) about the common orange. Or maybe it's a small part of that innate desire for survival that God embeds into all of us from birth. Whatever the case, it feels good to have been vindicated – even by a fruit.

Top-level comments on this article: (2 total)I too eat the white part. I can't remember when I started therefore I'm not sure if I over heard at one point mention it was of nutritional value. I've always tried to as much of a piece of fruit or vegetable as palatable. If it doesn't taste bad then changes are it isn't bad for you. I don't however think it has anything to do with a god.I'm glad to find out that someone else enjoys it too.
.....yes, it confirms that i'm not the only person to have eaten the white stuff inside the orange peel.....i too have done this since childhood and still do it....i'm 81 now....Ruth, that's why you've been around for 81 years, of course. Here's to your next 81!
