Just the Ticket for Haiti

The big celebration in New Orleans following the Saints' Super Bowl victory has provided me with inspiration for what we can do to help ease the pain in Haiti. We should put an NFL franchise in Haiti to help its citizens get their minds off the catastrophic earthquake that struck there recently.

NFL owners could move the Jacksonville Jaguars there, since that franchise hasn't gotten very good attendance in northern Florida over the last several years. They could then be renamed the Haiti Port-a-Princes, in honor of that nation's capital. Of course, we would also have to build a stadium for the team, but that shouldn't be any big problem. It's not like we haven't already sent plenty of construction crews and money down there.

There is one issue, however. Few Haitians would be able to afford the price of admission to an NFL game. But, hey, we could resolve that by flying in planeloads of wealthy Americans to each of their eight home games. There are enough "idle rich" in this country to make that quite plausible. What else would they really need to be doing with their weekends in the fall?

Oh, one other thing. We need to make sure the Port-a-Princes win the Super Bowl without too much delay; the sooner the better. Look what it's done for New Orleans. Why, that once-beleaguered city doesn't even need "Heckuva Job Brownie" anymore!

Paxton, thanks for reading and commenting. I'm glad that you and Jean can appreciate this article for what it is: social satire. I'm a little bit better at that than I used to be. :-) I was afraid that some people would think I was somehow making light of the situation in Haiti, which is certainly not the case, of course.

Your welcome Terry. I think people will pick up on your satirical style and realize that your real intentions are not in any way malicious or cruel

Who they hell gives you the right to speak for the Haitians. Are you serious? American football is a game for Americans, in Haiti they play soccer, not A/F... I just hope before you people start writing your garbage, you would take the time to research your subjects before putitng a few lines on paper. It is apparent that you have issues because the saints won the super bowl, you should deal with them, and leave Haiti out of it.

Kelly, the fact you ask me if I'm serious is a dead giveaway the you are one of those people who does not recognize or understand satire. Let me try to explain it to you. You see, the article really has nothing to do with Haiti. It simply pokes fun at all the hoopla about the Saints' Super Bowl win helping New Orleans recover from Katrina.

Love the tongue in cheek writing Terry- wish there was seriously something more to be done - I have friends who have lived there as missionaries for 20 years and it is still very grim there. His name is Terry too....

AMEN - and I wrote a piece including their latest news letter which had over 591 reads and gave info on giving - I know where those dollars are going - Terry and I were in YWAM together in 1984 and his wife was my old roommate - they have given over 20 years of their lives living and serving in Haiti and raising their family there.
