What's the Point of Some Cholesterol Drugs?

I don't get it. Aren't we constantly told that high cholesterol is one of the main risk factors for heart disease? Don't our doctors constantly remind us that lower cholesterol reduces our chances of having a heart attack? Then why is it that some cholesterol-lowering drugs carry disclaimers that say that they have not been proven to lower one's risk of having a heart attack?

Let me get this straight. A (representing the drug) has a positive effect on B (representing one's cholesterol count). B has a positive effect on C (representing one's chances of having a heart attack). But A does not at least indirectly have an effect on C? Wow! The natural cause-and-effect logic seems to be screwed up here. Lower cholesterol in the abstract or just for the sake of lower cholesterol is meaningless.

So what's the point of taking these drugs? Bragging rights? So you can say to other people, "Ha, ha, ha, my cholesterol is lower than yours"?

I was happy to give you all fives on this one! The pharmaceutical industry is worse than the oil industry. Just lately, because of government regulation, they can no longer pay doctors a commission for how many of their pills they prescribe! And they charge Americans as much as ten times more for drugs than other countriy Yet Americans are not allowed to go to Canada for their prescriptions, because of phrma influence during the Republican years controlling congress. Medicare Part D a huge giveaway to the pharmas and was rammed through congress by a Republican administration. Republicans are in bed with big oil, big pharma, there is no question about that, it's as plain as the nose on your face. Thankfully people are beginning to understand exactly what these large corporations are costing America in terms of health, wealth and the destruction of our planet. Now in congress, their is rumblings of a crackdown on vitamins. Wonder who's behind that, since vitamins keep us from becoming ill and having to take heavy drugs produced by the pharmas. My advice, unless you are dying, don't go to a paid off doctor and take his cocktail of killer drugs. Use natural remedies and see homeopathic doctors - and take your vitamins! Don't allow McCane to interfere with our vitamins for the sake of more profits for big pharma. I always found it interesting that big pharma's R and D never goes for a cure, only treatments. They are crooked as a dog's hind leg.

While I won't go quite as far as you do, you do raise some interesting issues here. Thanks for reading and commenting.

After oil companies, I think drug companies are the scariest, followed closely by face-cream manufacturers!

Face-cream manufacturers? Jennifer, you're going to have to provide a little more detail on that. :-)
