Is Perversion Worse Than Violence?

Recently, a California father decided to take justice into his own hands. He lured a 23-year-old man into his house and then pulled a gun on him, forced him to strip down to his underwear, and tied him up. He then proceeded to taser the guy more than 20 times before finally letting him go.
This father was angry at the young man because he had sexted' nude pictures of himself to his 17-year-old daughter over a cell phone. Instead of reporting the incident to the police, he responded in a way that was totally disproportionate and illegal. He is now charged with multiple felonies, including false imprisonment, unlawful use of a debilitating weapon, and assault and battery. The younger man has not been charged, due to the lack of evidence that he actually sent anything to the girl.
Yes, the young man did indeed commit a perverted act (assuming the girl's father is right about his claims), but do these people think that perversion is worse than violence? How can they believe the father was justified in what he did? Good grief! Nothing justifies even the slightest violent response other than violence itself. And what this man did was brutal and inhumane. It was vigilantism at its worst.
This is the 21st century, for gosh sakes. For issues and conflicts that we cannot resolve peacefully among ourselves, we have to learn to turn to the legal system, not violence. We need to establish a zero-tolerance policy for violence in this country. The use of violence for any reason other than to defend oneself or others from violence should not be tolerated.
I find it outrageous that some violent crimes are still considered misdemeanors. All violent crimes, no matter how "minor", should be classified as felonies. Granted, this wouldn't be a cure-all, but it would send out the right message about our disdain for violence.

Puritans have created this sexual bias bogey man. While I don't totally agree, I do think things often get blown way out of proportion, as in this case. It's baffling to me to that some forms of obscenity can be felonies while some forms of violence can be misdemeanors. I guess that's the same reason that TV networks can get big time fines for showing nudity but get a pass on showing graphic violence. How much sense does that make?Make love, not war. Peace.
