The Flag-Flying at Night Flap

A rural Virginia post office recently came under fire from local residents for flying the U.S. flag in an "illegal" manner. Apparently, U.S. flags are not supposed to be flown after sundown unless they are illuminated. This post office had been flying the flag at night without proper lighting, to the outrage of many military veterans, who had voiced their complaints to a local TV station. That station carried this flag flap as one of their lead stories for several evenings in a row.

However, as it turns out, post office officials did not intentionally fly the flag in the dark. They did not realize that the light that was supposed to be keeping it lit up had burnt out. As soon as the situation was called to their attention, the bulb was replaced and all was well again. The republic had been saved.

Now that this major issue has been resolved, maybe we can get back to the lesser important problems in the world like hunger, poverty, violent crime, wars, disease, and natural disasters. But we would never want any of these things to divert our attention and resources from defending Old Glory from the lowlifes who would desecrate it, intentionally or not.
