Social Conservatives Need to Get Aggressive

I get so disappointed whenever I see a social conservative backing off from their stances during interviews with members of the mainstream media. They seem fearful of being ridiculed by these people. However, in my opinion, this is nothing to be afraid of. In fact, I say it would be a badge of honor. Social conservatives need to be aggressive in these matters and put the media on the defensive. They need to assume a more “take no prisoners” attitude.

When asked if they oppose stuff like abortion and gay marriage, they should proudly proclaim that they do, instead of taking the cowardly way out by backpedaling. They should also stand willing to explain why. Actually, they should be willing to shout it from rooftops without having to be asked. Then they should require members of the media to offer up an explanation as to why they don’t agree – and then proceed to critique their explanation.

If the media doesn’t like it, too bad. Who cares what Chris Matthews, Lawrence O’Donnell, Matt Lauer, Diane Sawyer, Scott Pelley, Brian Wiliams and others of that ilk think anyway? Oh, and those independent voters they are so worried about alienating? Yes, they might not necessarily agree with those positions, but they will respect a candidate’s courage of conviction. That candidate will come off as more genuine, instead of being seen as one who adjusts his or her views, depending on the audience.
