Big East No Longer Worthy of Automatic BCS Bid

The winner of the Big East should no longer receive an automatic bid to a BCS bowl. The conference is not worthy anymore. Last year, it was represented in the Fiesta Bowl by a mediocre Connecticut team, which was crushed by Oklahoma. With none of its teams currently in the BCS top 20, the Big East is not likely to crown a highly-ranked champion this year either.
After this season, the Big East’s automatic berth in a BCS bowl should be revoked, with that slot being reserved for a fifth at-large entry. The days of the Big East as a big-time football conference, sadly, are over.

Top-level comments on this article: (2 total)I definitely agree with you Terry. I think they come up for review next year and barring some miracle, they are probably out of the BCS. I don't even want to guess what will make up the BCS after all the chips fall. It seems the conference carousel is spinning like a tornado of late.
P.S. for the record, I didn't rate the article at all. I just noticed that it is stuck at 3 Stars. I tried to change that but it won't let me. It's definitely worthy of more than three starts. Sorry Terry.Paul, thanks for reading and commenting. I'm glad you think the article deserves more than three stars. :-)
